Tired of the half-truths and deception from the Okaloosa School District? Unfortunately, it continues….On its Facebook page, the Okaloosa School District recently claimed it received an “A+” rating for the 2021-22 school year. The problem is, however, twofold: 1. The FL Dept of Education doesn’t give out “A+” ratings. 2. The district scored 62%, which is the lowest possible score to receive an “A” rating. The lowest “A” can’t be “A+.”
According to FL DOE 2022 School Grades Overview, “Schools are graded A, B, C, D, or F.” (See end of intro paragraph at https://www.fldoe.org/…/urlt/SchoolGradesOverview22.pdf.) Also on that document at the bottom is the “School Grading Scale: A = 62% of points or greater, B = 54% to 61% of points, C = 41% to 53% of points, D = 32% to 40% of points, F = 31% of points or less.“ There is no “A+” grade. By reviewing the document at District Grades one can see that Okaloosa scored 62%, the lowest possible “A” grade. And Okaloosa’s ranking among Florida districts has gone Down every year for six years now. You can see ratings from past years by reviewing the Florida Schools Grades Archive available at https://www.fldoe.org/accountability/accountability-reporting/school-grades/archives.stml.
Our teachers, staff and students deserve credit for managing to get an “A” rating. But they – and our entire county – deserve better than this attempt by politicians to deceive us as to how our school district is performing. It’s time we elect a new School Board that won’t play along with this deception and instead will reverse the downward trend!
